During an impromptu trip to Miami with Roger on our way home from the Keys a couple months ago, we stopped into one of my favorite Midtown restaurants to grab a bite. That’s where I fell in love with tahini sauce — a simple, thick, creamy sauce made from ground sesame seeds that pairs incredibly with falafel (which is how it’s served at this particular restaurant), but would also be amazing drizzled over a salad, used as a dip for veggies or grilled pita bread, or even in lieu of mayonnaise on a sandwich.
Every once in a while, I get on this falafel kick. Now, whenever the craving hits, I know exactly what I’ll be making to go along with it. There’s nothing like true, authentic Mediterranean falafel, which I was lucky enough to have during my time in Israel, but I have found other alternatives — both at restaurants and in a box — that, along with this Green Goddess Herbed Tahini Dip as its partner, can make a truly satisfying appetizer. I found gluten-free falafel mix at my local Trader Joe’s — no worries if you don’t have a TJ’s near you; you can find it on Amazon too! It was the perfect pairing for this tahini dip. Or is it a spread? I struggled with what to actually call this because of how thick it is. But it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day, no matter what you call it, it’s still delicious. Make this for your friends and family, and I guarantee everyone is going to want the recipe!
First things first; you’re going to need tahini in order to make this recipe. Luckily, this sesame seed spread is found in most grocery stores, and also, of course, available on Amazon. This Green Goddess Herbed Tahini Dip is naturally gluten-free, and can be made vegan by using dairy-free milk like almond or cashew. The only other ingredients you’ll need are fresh herbs, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper. Super simple!

- ¼ cup tahini sauce
- 2 tablespoons unfiltered apple cider vinegar
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened almond or cashew milk (or your preferred type of milk)
- 1 garlic clove
- ~1/2 cup chopped fresh Italian parsley
- ~1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1-2 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Add all ingredients into a blender or food processor and blend until well combined. Add salt and pepper to taste as needed.
