It’s no secret that I’m a huge gym rat. I have been for years. Before moving to Florida, I worked at a premier fitness center in South Jersey for quite some time, and I even got certified in personal training and led a few small group training sessions. I’ve done it all — Spin, Pilates, Zumba, all of the Les Mils fitness classes, Yoga, TRX, and dabbled a little into Crossfit when that craze started too. My love of all things exercise certainly didn’t change when I moved to Florida — in fact, it just grew stronger. I’ve joined the most incredible gym, PurLife Fitness Center, and love everything about it. It’s basically my second home. But every once in a while, it’s nice to add something new to your workout routine that shocks your body, and makes it work that much harder.
That is exactly what [solid core] has done for me. I have to credit my girls over at LLScene for introducing me to this amazing workout and inviting me to come take a class. The flagship [solid core] studio is located in Washington, D.C., where it was basically made famous because of a certain former First Lady who frequents the classes and has killer arms to show for it. That’s right, Michelle Obama is a [solid core] fan, and you should be too.
[solidcore] is 50 minutes of high-intensity, low-impact, slow and controlled movements on a resistance-based platform, aptly named [sweatlana]. The moves will work your muscles to failure. You’ll be shaking, sweating, and also probably swearing at the coaches. Each move includes some kind of variation of a plank, squat or lunge and helps to strengthen your body in ways you never knew how. Classes are small, no more than 14 [sweatlana] platforms are in a studio, meaning that every client receives personalized attention from their coach during class, helping them to ease through the movements without trouble. What I love most about [solid core] is its fast-paced intensity. Coaches are constantly talking throughout class, guiding you, counting you down, and explaining the exercises. There is never a lull, and you’ll be surprised at how quickly the 50 minutes goes by.
There are over 31 studios across the country, including two here in South Florida — Miami and Boca Raton. I’ve been going to the Boca location once per week, on top of my other workouts at PurLife, and have 100% seen a change in my body since incorporating this into my regimen. Classes are available all through theday, from as early as 6:30am to 7pm, and all of the coaches are fantastic.
So, are you ready for your first [solid core] workout? Head over to the website and create an account. After you’ve signed up, use my discount code solidbocabite to get $5 off the New Client 2-Pack (discount code valid through April 30th). Classes do require pre-registration, because like I mentioned earlier, the classes are small, and are likely to fill up. Then, put on your cutest, most comfortable workout clothes, grab your grippy socks (not required, you can also take class barefoot) and water bottle, and get ready for the best workout you’ve ever experienced.
[solid core] is located in Glades Plaza at 2200 Glades Road, Suite 306, in Boca Raton.
