Brunching at Batch New Southern Kitchen West Palm Beach
Craving a good Southern-style brunch? Batch New Southern Kitchen, located in the heart of Downtown West Palm Beach, has you covered.
Although I’m lucky to live within walking distance of some really great weekend brunch spots in Delray, every once in a while I do enjoy venturing outside of the bubble to check out what our neighboring towns have to offer.
West Palm Beach is home to a lot of popular restaurants, especially in its downtown area around Clematis Street. Batch is right in the middle of it all, with spacious indoor seating and some outdoor tables as well. I was enamored by the rustic decor, complete with colorful chalkboard artwork on the walls, and lots of woodwork and exposed lighting. I had already been impressed with the atmosphere right when we sat down, and then we were met with exceptional service and some seriously good food, so it’s safe to say Roger and I really enjoyed our brunch experience at the restaurant.
Scratch-Made, Farm-to-Table Restaurant
One thing to note is that yes, it is a Southern-inspired menu. As you may imagine, some of the food is a little heavy —but hey, brunch is meant to be a treat, and this brunch certainly was! Batch makes it a point to source many of the ingredients used from local Florida farms and purveyors, including Nature Smiles Urban Farm (Palm Beach Gardens), BeeMade Honey (Jupiter), Old Florida Farms (DeLeon Springs), Old School Bakery (Delray Beach), Pilgrim Farms Pumphouse Coffee Roasters (Jupiter).
Everything is also made from scratch, which means they can definitely make adjustments to suit dietary preferences and allergies. The team was prepped and ready to accommodate my restrictions accordingly — our server, Morgan, even had a list prepared for me noting which dishes on the menu could be made Shaina-friendly!
Luckily, the first thing she listed was exactly what I wanted: a hash made of house-cured and smoked duck, pecan-wood smoked bacon, roasted peppers, onions, and potatoes, topped with two poached eggs. If you are gluten-free, simply let the kitchen know, and they will cook your potatoes without using flour. They won’t be as crispy as your non-gluten-free friend’s dish, but they’ll still be yummy! The mix of flavors and textures in this skillet hash were absolutely delish. Normally, there is also a paprika aioli drizzled on top, but this had to be omitted for me. That was fine though — the egg yolk had the perfect saucy consistency!
Bacon IN my hash just wasn’t enough, so I also ordered a side of the pecan-whiskey candied bacon, because um, how can you read that description and NOT order it?!
Roger ordered the Southern Crab Cake Benedict. Instead of the traditional English muffin base, the crab cakes and poached eggs are served on top of a Southern staple: fried green tomatoes. Smothered in creamy brown butter hollandaise sauce and served with pecan-smoked bacon and super crispy potatoes, this is one of those dishes that totally requires a post-brunch nap.
No brunch is complete without bottomless cocktails. Batch offers sangria, mimosas, and bellinis that you can switch between, as much as you’d like, during a two-hour window. There are also two kinds of Bloody Marys, and a variety of other cocktails available.
