Batch Gastropub: No Better Place for Happy Hour in West Delray
While the majority of Delray’s visitors tend to spend most of their time on East Atlantic Avenue and the downtown area, if you travel a little further west on Atlantic Avenue, you’ll be introduced to even more options for food, drinks and fun. Batch Gastropub is one of those spots, located in the Delray Marketplace next to Paragon Theaters and its bowling alley and arcade, Penny Lanes.
Batch Gastropub is a modern scratch-kitchen-and-bar concept featuring American cuisine and a long list of craft cocktails. They even have their own selection of house-infused cocktails on tap. The Delray Beach location opened in 2017, following the original concept in Miami that opened in 2013.
Happy Hour at Batch Delray
Happy hour at Batch is Monday through Friday from 4-7pm at the bar, and 4-6pm throughout the entire restaurants. The drink special is one of the absolute bests I’ve seen around town. Pretty much all drinks are only $7. Any speciality cocktail, beer, wine or spirit under $13 — which is a large percentage of the drink menu — is part of this offering. Even the house-infused cocktails, which the bar team creates and batches out into kegs themselves, so the drinks are on tap and ready to go at any moment.
I tried the 305 Collins, made with black tea-infused vodka, passion fruit and house-made lemon peel soda. The drink itself is a beautiful shade of yellow-orange, and the flavor is really well balanced. The passion fruit flavor is very present, without being in-your-face or overly sweet.
I also tried the house-made hard root beer, with Batch’s own spice-infused rum and Tahitian vanilla bean Root Beer. This explodes with some serious flavor that will keep Root Beer lovers coming back for more.
There’s also a gin and tonic with house-made tonic and grapefruit-hibiscus syrup, a pineapple and jalapeño-infused tequila with guava and citrus, and a blackberry bourbon lemonade with house-made blackberry-cardamom syrup, fresh lemon and house-made spiced bitters.
Happy hour also features $7 small plates, including buffalo chicken nachos, chips and guac, tequila-lime BBQ shrimp and pork belly potstickers. But that’s not all. Wings are $1 each. The flavors are Nashville hot, buffalo and sticky chili glaze.
What to Order at Batch Delray
If you’re a fan of truffle fries, you’re going to want to try them at Batch Gastropub. They’re thin and crispy, sprinkled with rosemary and parmesan (although I got mine without the cheese, of course), and served with a smokey aioli.
The menu at Batch Gastropub Delray Beach is filled with items on the heartier side, like their ‘Mac Attack.’ This is a gnocchi mac and cheese dish with aged gruyere and spicy “Dorito Dust.” There are a ton of add-ons to enhance the dish, like grilled chicken, strip steak, shrimp, pecan-whiskey candied bacon, farm egg, truffle oil, buttermilk fried chicken, pulled pork, herb fries, roasted corn and whiskey-caramelized onion.
Brick-oven pizzas, burgers and sandwiches, salads, and a variety of main dishes round out the menu so there really is something for everyone. Don’t worry, vegetarians/vegans are covered too! Batch offers three options that use plant-based Impossible “meat.” There is a burger, boneless wings, and a buffalo chicken flatbread with vegan cheese.
If you’re looking for something lighter, the chimichurri chicken kebobs are so good. It comes with pineapple-cilantro fried rice. Since I can’t have pineapple, the kitchen was more than happy to swap it with the sticky seaweed rice (gluten free) — a really yummy side option!
