Everyone is familiar with the iconic Tommy Bahama brand, but did you know that select stores offer a hybrid format? Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar offers retail on one side, while the other is a casual dining experience with laid-back vibes, tropical cocktails, and shareable small plates.

Tommy Bahama is known for its high-quality beach-chic style, with everyday looks for both men and women. I am a huge fan of all the linen, and there’s also a line of moisture-wicking styles perfect to help beat the South Florida heat.

The brand is also pretty synonymous with beach essentials — chairs, umbrellas, towels, coolers, bags, etc. There is also home decor, luggage, bedding, and more. Each retail location varies in what’s available in-store. But shopping online gives you access to everything.

Shoppers can order drinks while browsing through the store, and if you spend $25 or more in the restaurant, you get a 25% discount on any single item in the retail store on that same day. This is the best kind of ‘Sip and Shop’ experience!

Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar locations are in Florida, California, Nevada, and Texas. There are six locations in Florida, including Fort Lauderdale and Dania Beach.

I’ve visited both and loved the concept. In Fort Lauderdale, Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar is situated right downtown on Las Olas Boulevard. It’s not far from another one of my favorites in the area, Fort Lauderdale seafood restaurant Even Keel, as well as plenty of other Fort Lauderdale attractions in this busy part of town.

The Dania Beach spot is conveniently located in Dania Pointe, an open-air shopping and dining plaza, very close to the cruise ship port and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. There are a lot of fun things to do in Dania Pointe, so you can make it a full day or night experience. Dania Beach Improv, Bowlero, and Regal theaters are all within walking distance of the restaurant and retail shop.

What to Order at Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar

If you didn’t already know about the shopping and dining hybrid concept of Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar, now you do — and I bet you’re just itching to hear about the food and drinks.

Start with one of Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar’s signature cocktails. The Coconut Cloud Martini is a favorite, made with coconut, Don Q Cristal rum, 360 Vanilla vodka, and Cruzan coconut rum. This boozy drink is luxuriously smooth, a little on the sweet side, and has just enough coconut to make you feel like you’re on vacation. The only thing it’s missing is a little cocktail umbrella!

My personal favorite is the Grapefruit Basil Martini, made with Grey Goose vodka, grapefruit, and fresh basil. It’s simple and super refreshing. There are also zero-proof cocktails, wine, and beer available.

The Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar menu has a lot of great snacks and small plates that are meant for sharing. But my favorite thing on the menu is something I do not want to share: the roasted vegetable bowl. It comes with roasted sweet potatoes, poblano peppers, caramelized cauliflower, slaw, baby greens, edamame, cotija cheese, crimini mushrooms, chipotle aioli, pepitas, and crispy tortilla strips, all tossed in a tangy lime vinaigrette.

The dish is naturally gluten free, and easy to make dairy free — just request no cheese. If you’re like me and don’t eat corn, omit the tortilla strips as well. Keep it vegetarian, or add grilled shrimp, chicken, or filet.

I love all the different flavors and textures in this bowl. Adding a protein definitely makes it more filling! Another yummy bowl option is the grilled chicken and mango salad with baby greens, toasted almonds and macadamia nuts, feta, pepitas, dried blueberries, vine-ripe tomatoes, and lemon-basil vinaigrette

Let’s get into more of the shareable snacks, which is what the Marlin Bar menus are all about! Some highlights include:

  • Street corn dip with jack and cotija cheeses, chipotle aioli, and house-made tortilla chips
  • Ahi tuna tacos with island slaw and wasabi-avocado crème in wonton shells
  • World-famous coconut shrimp with papaya-mango chutney
  • Hurricane tots with furikake, and Sriracha aioli
  • Filet tacos with roasted corn salsa, chipotle aioli, island slaw, feta, and guacamole

While none of these dishes are Shaina-friendly, they are fan favorites worth mentioning. My friends all loved them!

One share plate I can have is the cajun crinkle fries. I am powerless before crispy fried potatoes in just about any form, so I had to try these. They’re seasoned to perfection and come with chipotle aioli for dipping. Double the zest, double the deliciousness!
