Never wait in line again at your local coffee shop. You can have your very own Matcha Tea Latte at home and it’ll be in your hands in less than three minutes!

(PS: How freaking cute is this mug? It’s from my favorite store, Francesca’s, and was given to me as a birthday present from Miles and Mimosas.)

I discovered the Matcha Tea Latte at a locally-owned coffee shop here in Boca a couple years back. I wasn’t sure what the flavor would be like, but after one sip I was hooked and completely smitten with the light, yet somehow still super bold taste. Matcha can be easily overpowered since it’s such a delicate flavor. Paired with nothing but almond milk and a couple packets of sweetener, there’s no masking its warm, comforting appeal.

Since each visit to that particular coffee shop for that particular latte would set me back about $5, I wasn’t necessarily dying to go there all the time. So, I headed over to Whole Foods in search of good quality matcha powder. Because, let’s be honest, if I was already willing to spend $5 on a latte over and over again, I can certainly spend a little more than that, one time, to buy the powder and make my own latte at home. It would end up saving me money in the long run.

I also discovered making your own lattes at home saves a lot of time. Driving to the coffee shop, standing in line, waiting for your order, and then driving home or to your next destination — it’s a totally unnecessary time-sucker. So, while the occasional coffee shop visit is fine when you’re on the go, the luxury of making your own coffee drinks at home is pretty nice.

You can make your Matcha Tea Latte either hot or cold. All you need is water, milk, sweetener, and of course, matcha powder. If you can’t find matcha powder in a store near you, you can order from Amazon. This is probably the best bet for buying larger quantities. I like to use unsweetened almond or cashew milk and stevia, but feel free to use whatever type of milk and sweetener you prefer.

There’s something so satisfying about making things for yourself from scratch — that feeling of accomplishment (and saving money and time in the process) puts a big smile on my face. And so does a sip of my Matcha Tea Latte.
