Making a list of Fort Lauderdale restaurants to hit up? Sunness Supper Club deserves to be at the top!

Tucked in a small plaza off Sunrise Boulevard, Sunness Supper Club is one of the best hidden restaurants in Fort Lauderdale, especially with its entrance and valet located around the back of the building. Owner Michael Stanley opened its doors in December of 2024 with two veteran chefs, James Beard Award winner Allen Susser (Chef Allen’s) and Arthur Jones (Barton G’s).
This contemporary American dining destination is where classic elegance meets modern comfort. The menu highlights timeless comfort food, made with high‑quality ingredients and served with high-quality hospitality.
The interior combines retro steakhouse-esque décor with a welcoming ambiance, complete with a stunning bar and one of the best music playlists I’ve heard in a restaurant. Additionally, owner Michael shared some news: the upstairs floor of the building is slated to become a speakeasy-style bar. I love a classic speakeasy — especially if the building housing it has actually seen some real mob action, and Michael told us that it has.
Now, I know what you’re really here for — the food and drinks. So let’s recap my recent dining experience at one of the newest Fort Lauderdale restaurants to open in Broward County.
Dining at Sunness Supper Club
There is plenty of variety on the menus here, for both food and drink. I kicked things off with a cocktail that was the perfect balance of sweet and tart: a passion fruit margarita made with one of my favorite liqueur brands, Chinola. The wine list is also plentiful — we tasted a delicious Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir with our main dishes.
Bread service at Sunness is not to be missed (well, unless you’re gluten free). Parker House Rolls are served in a cast iron skillet, steaming hot and oh-so-fluffy. I wish I could have dug in!
Some of the most popular dishes include the ‘Lil Kosher Hot Dogs’ served with a trio of mustard dipping sauces and the Caesar salad that is prepared tableside. I loved the spicy tuna crispy rice — something I almost always order if I see it on the menu. The rice-to-tuna ratio and the rice’s crispiness were both spot on. The spicy tuna was flavorful enough on its own that I didn’t even mind that Sunness didn’t carry gluten-free soy sauce.
I stayed on a seafood path for the first few courses. Next up was a beautiful combination of rock shrimp, lobster, and white fish swimming together in Peruvian flavors and served with plantain and taro chips — all the makings of one absolutely delicious ceviche. I believe the ceviche preparations change frequently, so make sure to check the nightly specials!
Fort Lauderdale restaurants typically offer some kind of summer deal since it’s known for being a slower time of year. Sunness has a three-course prix-fixe dinner option for just $49. It includes an appetizer, main course, and dessert. I was able to try one of the main course options: the blackened red snapper with mango salsa and cilantro rice. This dish screams Florida summer with all of its bright and bold flavors. It’s a celebration of mango season on a plate.
It was time to break away from the seafood and get to the meat of things at Sunness Supper Club. The Wagyu beef skirt steak is a must-have! The 10 oz. steak comes with chimichurri and truffle frites. The steak was beautifully cooked, and that herby chimichurri was the perfect match. That is, after all, my preferred sauce for any steak.
But those fries! When I tell you that these are some of the best fries I’ve ever had, I am not exaggerating. You can tell they are hand-cut and seasoned with love. Golden brown and crisp on the outside, pillow-soft on the inside — this is what a good fry should be. I could easily have taken down the whole dish, and probably would have, had I not been saving my appetite for dessert.
And by dessert, I mean an espresso martini. Sunness Supper Club carries a dairy-free liqueur made with oat milk that comes in an espresso flavor. It made the most incredible espresso martini — rich and creamy, but not too sweet. That cocktail was the perfect ending to an amazing dinner at one of the hottest restaurants in Fort Lauderdale right now.
