The restaurant’s philosophy is ‘that nothing brings people together like healthy good food,’ which is exactly what you’ll find at Orion Fresh Mediterranean. Husband-and-wife owners Anh Tuyet Cao and Georgios Tsinivits opened the first location in East Boca Raton. The newer Boynton Beach location is in Compson Place at Renaissance Commons, along with Boynton Beach sushi restaurant Lemongrass, my favorite Boynton Beach restaurant for Latin dining, Sabor Latino, and Hurricane Dockside Grill.

The inspiration behind Orion Fresh Mediterranean’s menu comes from Ahn’s and Georgios’ backgrounds: Vietnamese and Greek. Ahn is Vietnamese-American and Georgios was born in Northern Greece. These two chefs are showcasing just how delicious and healthy the cuisine of their heritages can be.

There are plenty of gluten-free and vegan ingredient options to build your bowl or wrap. The pita for the wraps is not gluten free, though, so my go-to is always a bowl. These bowls are very filling — sometimes even enough to split between two meals.

The menu also includes side orders of pita chips, regular fries, Greek feta fries, dolmades (grape leaves), spanakopita (spinach pie), falafel, and different types of spreads. Round out your meal with one of the refreshing homemade juices — turmeric mango, strawberry, lemonade, or watermelon. Although the main focus of the restaurant is providing healthier options, you can still satisfy your sweet tooth with one of the homemade desserts, such as baklava, fried cheesecake, or chocolate cake.

Whether you want to enjoy a leisurely lunch or grab something to-go, Orion Fresh Mediterranean is the perfect spot for lunch in Boynton Beach!

A Casual Option for Lunch in Boynton Beach

The build-your-own-bowl concept is great for a casual lunch, especially helpful if you have dietary restrictions or are following a particular diet plan. You can completely pick and choose what goes into your meal. This has become a huge trend in recent years. What sets Orion Fresh Mediterranean apart from other build-your-own-bowl restaurants is the distinctive cuisine and the variety of ingredients offered to personalize your meal.

In my opinion, Orion Fresh Mediterranean offers a broader range, especially when it comes to proteins. The addition of things like hummus, tzatziki, and tahini makes it even more unique.

I am a creature of habit when it comes to creating my bowls. So far, my orders from Orion Fresh Mediterranean have definitely reflected that.

There are two options when building a bowl: regular or large. The regular bowl comes with two bases, one protein, one vegetable, one spread, and as many toppings or dressings as you’d like. The large comes with two bases, two proteins, two vegetables, two spreads, and as many toppings and dressings as you’d like. If you prefer to create a pita wrap, you can choose two each of proteins, vegetables, and spreads, and add any toppings and dressings.

Here is my go-to custom bowl:

  • Base: Spinach and Romaine, or Spinach and Kale Salad. There is also baked chickpeas, lentils, turmeric rice, and harissa rice.
  • Protein: Falafel (vegan and gluten free) or Medi Chicken, which is mild in spice. Additional options include spicy chicken, braised lamb, basil shrimp, and beef meatballs.
  • Grilled Veggies: Zucchini. You can also choose mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers.
  • Spread: Baba Ganoush or one of the hummus flavors, which include classic, cilantro-lime, and red pepper. There is also spicy harissa and tzatziki.
  • Toppings: I don’t go too crazy here. Usually chickpeas, purple cabbage, and tomato-cucumber salad. Other add-ons include feta, onions, tomatoes, kalamata olives, quinoa tabbouleh, pickled onions, grape leaves, and guacamole.
  • Dressings: I love the classic tahini dressing. There is also Greek vinaigrette, Greek yogurt dill, smoked garlic, Sriracha tahini, and the Orion hot sauce.

Next time, I’ve gotta switch it up! I’m thinking turmeric rice and kale salad (gotta get in the greens!) with braised lamb, bell peppers, red pepper hummus, quinoa tabbouleh, tomatoes, and either Greek vinaigrette or smoked garlic. The combinations are endless when you go to lunch in Boynton Beach at Orion Fresh Mediterranean!
