Passover begins next Wednesday, April 8th, and lasts through Thursday, April 16th. Although you may not be able to celebrate with our extended families or friends this year like you may usually do, it’s no reason not to celebrate at all. Passover commemorates the story of the Israelites’ leaving ancient Egypt. Before their departure, the Jews suffered through the Pharaoh’s unleashing of the ten plagues — fitting, I suppose, as what we are experiencing right now with COVID-19 could be seen as a “plague” on our society. But the Jews persevered, and were able to make it through that tenth and final plague, Death of the First Born, and it resulted in their ultimate release from Egyptian slavery.
My prayer this Passover, is that the world will be able to overcome COVID-19, just as the Jews were delivered from Egypt’s bondage back then, and come out on the other side of it as strong as ever — and there most certainly needs to be a celebration after it’s all over.
