Snack on a bowl of Spicy Charred Edamame with Ginger and Red Chili Flakes when you’re in the mood for a little heat and a lot of flavor!
Everyone is still on their 2015 Health Kick, right? We’re all looking for ways to eat lighter and stay on track, and sometimes when we hit that mid-afternoon all-I-want-is-a-snack slump, our diets tend to veer off into the danger zone. If you work in an office, you’re bound to come face-to-face with the dreaded vending machine. The chips and pretzels, the mini chocolate chip cookies, the chewy candies and of course, the chocolate are all staring you down, just waiting for you to put in your dollar bills and save them from being locked up inside that glass torture chamber. Don’t do it! There are so many better things that you could be eating — not just better for you, but they taste better too!
Spicy Charred Edamame with Ginger and Red Chili Flakes will quell your cravings for salty, sweet and spicy all in one. Not to mention, it’s easy to keep track of how much you’re eating because of the pile of pods growing in front of you while you eat. It’s like what they say about eating pistachios — people tend to eat less because a) they take time to crack open and b) you see all the shells! All the delicious gingery, red pepper flakey, sea salty yumminess of these Spicy Charred Edamame with Ginger and Red Chili Flakes is right there on the outside of the pod. If you’ve eaten shelled edamame before, you know the drill. Put that whole pod right in your mouth and suck out the little soybeans and you’ll see how the flavor comes right along with ’em. Edamame is a must whenever I go out for sushi or Thai, and it’s also a must-have in my freezer. I’m never without a package of the stuff. It’s just so easy to steam or throw in your wok (or even microwave) and it makes the perfect snack or appetizer.
There is a lot going on in my Spicy Charred Edamame with Ginger and Red Chili Flakes, and there is no better brand to use to impart all the flavor I was looking for than my trusted Gourmet Garden products. I cooked the edamame in a pan over high heat, creating that charred texture and appearance that I love about this ingredient. I added Gourmet Garden’s Thai Stir-In Seasoning — a blend of lemongrass, ginger, cilantro and chili pepper — and let the edamame soak up all that Thai flavor, producing one of the most flavorful snacks to come out of my kitchen. After achieving a successful char, I sprinkled some of Gourmet Garden’s Lightly Dried Herbs, Ginger and the Chili Pepper, and finished ’em off with some flake salt.
It’s so easy to make your own Thai-inspired edamame dish at home, and even easier to adjust the heat levels to your own preference. If spice isn’t your thing, dial back on the ginger and chili flakes. Or go crazy and try a totally different combination! I won’t lie though — this Spicy Charred Edamame with Ginger and Chili Pepper is your best bet.
- 1 12 oz. bag frozen shelled edamame, thawed
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp Gourmet Garden Thai Stir-In Seasoning
- juice of 1/2 lime
- 1 tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce
- 1/2 tbsp Gourmet Garden Lightly Dried Ginger
- 1/4 tbsp Gourmet Garden Lightly Dried Chili Pepper
- flake salt for sprinkling on top
- Heat oil in a medium pan over high heat.
- Add edamame and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in Thai Stir-In Seasoning, lime juice and soy sauce and continue cooking until char marks appear on the edamame. This is achieved by leaving the edamame alone while in the pan for as long as possible. Stir only to flip over the edamame.
- Once you start to see char marks, stir in the Lightly Dried Ginger and Chili Flakes and mix well.
- Sprinkle salt on top when serving. Serve hot.
