The Brunch Trend

There seems to be a serious brunch trend going on. Restaurants are taking it to a whole new level, giving new meaning to the term ‘Sunday Funday.” It’s not just football and booze anymore, it’s unlimited Bloody Mary bars and breakfast treats.

Some of the most legendary brunch spots are The Tin Muffin, Caffe Luna Rosa and Max’s Grille, which I’ve been to countless times. But there are a lot more restaurants with plenty of good eats to offer for that early afternoon appetite, and I am itching to try them out. One thing I’d like to do this year is make sure to go out for brunch at least one Sunday a month. These are the ones on my radar right now…along with what I most want to try on their menus. Have you been to any of these places? If so, leave me your thoughts and suggestions!

The Rebel House: They serve their “Wake and Bake Brunch” on Sundays from 11am-3pm. Widely known for a very eclectic menu, a lot of their dinner staples are available for brunch along with a lot of other out-of-the-box creations you probably won’t find in too many other restaurants. They also have $12 bottomless mimosas, and I’m not talking your traditional OJ and champagne; they feature a special mimosa of the week… Sign me up!

Must try: Egg White Scramble (Kale, asparagus, mushrooms, grilled onions, herbs, tomato salad), Banana Bread Pudding French Toast, Cheesy Corn Grits Fries, Potato Leek Hash, Bubby’s Potato Latkes

Kapow! Noodle Bar: $15 endless mimosas and a $5 Bloody Mary Bar are highlights of this relatively new brunch spot. The menu is small for brunch, but packed with a lot of flavor. There is an Asian flair to most of the dishes, like the Bacon, Egg and Smoked Gouda Sprint Roll with Sriracha ketchup; and bok choy and edamame are featured ingredients of the Build Your Own Omelet menu option.

Must try: The Emperor’s Omelette (make your own) with smoked gouda, bok choy, mushrooms and edamame

Max’s Harvest: Another location with unlimited brunch cocktails. For $15, you can have as many mimosas and Bloody Marys as you can handle in one day. This menu is all about local, organic and delicious ingredients. It is definitely not your typical brunch menu, but that’s the new farm-to-table movement for ya.
Must try: Goat Cheese Croquettes, Golden Gaspacho, Vegetable-Farm Cheese Quiche (it uses quail egg!)

Sundy House: Going to brunch at the Sundy House is a total treat. It is not, by any means, something you just randomly decide to go to. Plus, it’s only on Sundays from 10:30am-2pm. Brunch here is a whole to-do and one of the best in South Florida. For $58 per person (plus tax and tip), you get unlimited champagne and Bloody Marys, and a buffet of fresh seafood, a carving and omelet station, fresh fruit, salad bar, and lots of different breakfast pastries and desserts. It’s not cheap, and you probably need to make a reservation, but it’s all well worth it I’m sure.
