Hey Boca locals, if you’re trying to figure out what to do with your time this summer, I’ve got you covered!

With summertime on the horizon, everyone is looking for fun things to do — especially if you’ve got little ones running around! You can’t rely on summer camp or play dates every day of the season, so it’s important that you find things in the area to keep everyone occupied. Even if you don’t have kids, summer is a great time to do a little bit of exploring in the area and experience things you may not have the chance to do during season when everything is so busy. Whether you’re a parent looking to give your kids unique and fun activities to do throughout the summer, or you’re like me, a single gal just looking for something different to do every now and then, here are five great ideas for things to do right here in Boca!

Sugar Sand Park
This park has so much to offer — a 132-acre park with a playground and splash area, as well as a Community Center with a science museum, theatre and indoor gym. My cousins have both held their little boys’ birthday parties inside the Children’s Science Explorium and they were both a total success! It’s really a fun place for kids, and even I think it’s enjoyable to walk through the park and enjoy the outdoors.

iPic
Let’s face it — summertime in Florida is HOT. The movies are the perfect place to escape the heat that sometimes gets a little overwhelming. The iPic is a lot of fun for everyone — kids and adults. You can grab something to eat from the upstairs snack stand and bar before the movie and bring it inside the theatre, or sit back and relax in the reclining chairs and enjoy the waiter service! You also have the option to dine at Tanzy before or after the movie too — I recommend their insanely delicious red velvet bread pudding for dessert!

Gumbo Limbo
I’ve yet to get over to this coastal preserve, but I hear it’s a pretty cool place! You can check out the butterfly garden or watch sharks, native fish, and other local marine life in four different sea tanks. Sometimes we don’t get a chance to really see and appreciate the nature that surrounds us. Gumbo Limbo gives you a chance to do just that.

The Wick Theatre
If you love the theatre, you must visit The Wick. Classic musicals and plays with wonderfully talented casts, incredible scenery and costumes, and a fun costume museum — this is one of Boca’s hidden gems. You can even have dinner at the theatre right before the show, complete with a themed pre-fixe menu. This summer’s showings include Peter Pan and Hello Dolly, among many others.

Boca Museum of Art
Here’s another spot I haven’t been to yet. It’s a small museum located in Mizner Park and is always showcasing interesting art exhibits and hosting fun local events. There’s also a Summer Art Camp for kids ages 5-12. This summer there will be an exhibit called People and Places: Photographs from the Collection, which will feature prints of some of the most recognizable icons of the modern era. That is definitely something I’d be interested in going to check out!

There are plenty of other things in and around Boca Raton to keep us busy this summer season. What are some of your favorite ways to beat the heat and have fun?
