Experience Culture and Art in Boca Raton at The Boca Raton Museum of Art

If you’re looking to experience unique and historical art in Boca Raton this season, the Boca Raton Museum of Art has three exhibits that are sure to impress.

This January marks the 75th season at this cultural landmark for art in Boca Raton. While there may be many art galleries in Boca Raton, the Boca Museum of Art is a different experience. Located next to the Mizner Park Amphitheater, the museum has welcomed — and impressed — the local community and visitors from all over the world for the past seven decades!

To celebrate this milestone, the Museum has announced the world premiere of the historic art exhibition, Splendor and Passion: Baroque Spain and Its Empire, in partnership with the Hispanic Society Museum & Library. For the first time, South Florida audiences can see the largest concentration of art from Baroque Spain ever to travel to the state.

Fun fact: Fellow Palm Beach County art museum, the Norton Museum of Art, has also partnered with the Hispanic Society Museum & Library to showcase Sorolla and the Sea through March 16th, 2025. The two museums will share special member perks while these exhibitions are on display. The Norton is located in West Palm Beach, about 25 miles north of the Boca Raton Museum of Art.

What I love most about this art museum in Boca Raton is how it showcases the arts in an approachable way. And all of the events surrounding the exhibits bring them to life! 

Notable Art in Boca Raton

To coincide with the Baroque exhibition, the Museum will feature Las Meninas from an Artificial Light, a meticulous copy of Velázquez’s famous painting that hangs in the El Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid. Spanish conceptual artist Félix De La Concha made a replica of the original by painting in oil on 140 sheets of 9 by 12-inch paper and piecing them together to duplicate the actual size of the Velázquez masterpiece.

The Félix De La Concha exhibit also includes artwork that was commissioned by the Museum to celebrate Boca Raton’s centennial celebration in 2025. These paintings highlight iconic landmarks in Boca Raton history, including the crossroads of Dixie Highway, the Flagler railroad, and Camino Real, with Addison Mizner’s administrative building as the centerpiece — now known as the award-winning wedding and event venue, The Addison. The Félix De La Concha exhibit is on display now through March 30th, 2025.

For a glimpse into the museum’s beginnings, check out the exhibit Legacy: Gifts from the Mayers and Friedman Collection. The Museum Collection was founded based on significant donations from these two families. Together, their donations total 191 exemplary pieces of art in the collection. This exhibit is on display now through October 26th, 2025.

In honor of 75 years of presenting art in Boca Raton, the Museum will host a series of special events and programs including everything from educational experiences and curator talks to music entertainment, Spanish film viewings, and wine tastings from the vineyards of Spain, and so much more.

The Boca Raton Museum of Art is located at 501 Plaza Real in Downtown Boca Raton. It’s surrounded by plenty of dining options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and within walking distance of the Brightline Boca. The Museum is open from 11 am to 6 pm on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and from 11 am to 8 pm on Thursday. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
